Epilepsy is a chronic neurological illness, which still poses a challenge in both acute and chronic seizure management despite recent advances.During the last two decades, several options became available for patients with chronic epilepsy including epilepsy surgery. However, the patients, which are not surgical candidates, still require medical management. The older generation anticonvuIsants including Phenobarbital carbamazepine, valproic acid and phenytoin are still used but they have narrow therapeutic index and response rates are not favorable secondary to adverse effects.
