In the present paper,a hierarchical multi-scale model is developed for the nonlinear analysis of structures experiencing damages induced by both discontinuity and nonlinearity in the mesolevel.Starting from the asymptotic expansion based homogenization theory, the energy equivalence between scales is developed,in which the nonlinearities in the meso-level are tackled by the region isolating technique. Then accompanied with the scalar damage model, the damage evolutions are resolved and thereafter the framework of multi-scale damage theory is developed. Finally a numerical example is simulated to demonstrate the capacity of the proposed model to simulate structural damage and failure within the multi-scale framework.
