Overexpression of Fatty Acid Binding Protein-7 Correlated with Basal-like Subtype of Breast Cancer

　　The basal-like subtype of breast cancer (BLBC) is characterized by an absence of detectable ER and HER2 expression combined with positive expression of vimentin, EGFR, cytokeratin 8/18, and cytokeratin 5/6.However, it is not fully understood how carcinoma cells can proliferate independently from ER or HER2 signaling pathways.We conducted an oligonucleotide microarray analysis using 40 samples of breast tumor tissue including ten tumors from each of four categories: ER (+)/HER2(-), ER(+)/HER2(+), ER(-)/HER2(+), and ER(-)/HER2(-).It was shown that fatty acid binding protein-7 (FABP-7) was detected in the gene list as overexpressed in ER (-)/HER2 (-) breast cancers.RTPCR analysis was carried out on 16 cases, including 4 ER(+)/HER2(-), 2 ER(+)/HER2(+), 3 ER(-)/HER2(+), and 5 ER(-)/HER2(-) samples, and 2 non-neoplastic mammary glands as control tissue.Breast cancers categorized as ER (-)/HER2(-) demonstrated a high cDNA level of FABP-7 compared to that in other types of breast cancer (p<0.0001).
