In this study we present a superparamagnetic PEGylated oxide–Fe3O4 hybrid composite(Fe3O4@ TMSMA-r-PEGMA)via a simple and effective chemical method.Size controlled Fe3O4 nanospheres was used as magnetic core and their surfaces were coated with poly-(TMSMA-r-PEGMA),which was a copolymer comprising 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl metharylate(TMSMA)and poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether methacrylate(PEGMA).Superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanosheres with an average diameter of 85 nm have been solvothermally synthesized with the presence of poly(vinylpyrrolidone)(PVP)as an additive, where each of the spheres is composed of primary nanoparticles with the size of about 10 nm.The coating polymer,poly-(TMSMA-r-PEGMA),which is comprised of an “anchor part”(trimethoxysilane)and a “function part”(PEG),was synthesized by a radical polymerization reaction and spontaneously formed monolayers on Fe3O4 nanospheres.Vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM)showed the as-prepared samples remain superparamagnetic behavior with saturation magnetization value of about 83.3 emu/g at room-temperature.
