To develop the utilization of the ultra-high-frequency (UHF) method in partial discharge (PD) detection in gas insulated switchgear (GIS), it is necessary to study the propagation characteristics of EM wave.In this research, the propagation characteristics of UHF signals in a GIS model with T shaped structure (TS) is analyzed thoroughly by using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and the influence of TS to the attenuation of PD signals is mainly investigated both in time and frequency domain.Through comparing the results in two branches, the different effects on the propagation of EM wave are also analyzed.
