Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most frequent malignant disease in Europe.In year 2008, 412,000 people were diagnosed with this condition, and 207,000 patients died of it.In 2003, recommendations for screening programmes were issued by the Council of the European Union, and it served as the basis for preparation of the CRC screening guidelines which were created with emphasis on the evidence based medicine and were published at the end of year 2010 ("European guidelines for quality assurance in colorectal cancer screening and diagnosis").
