Chemoradiation is the mainstay of treatment management for locally advanced cervical cancer.Delivery of treatment to these advanced cervical cancers can be challenging given loss of normal landmarks.In addition, one must also consider the volume of normal tissues to be impacted by the radiation, particularly the bladder and rectum, in an effort to minimize both acute and long term toxicities.A variety of techniques can be employed to help reduce the volume of normal tissues irradiated while at the same time allow for a definitive therapeutic dose to be delivered to the cervical cancer.Integration of CT-based dosimetry has largely eliminated the problem of defining the dose to normal tissue given the ability to visualize organs at risk and define the point closest to our applicator device.
