It is well known that the potassium channels (as a kind of shield), are widely blocked or inhibited by the peptide toxins (as a kind of spear) from venomous animals, such as scorpions, snakes,spiders, bees, sea anemones.These animal toxins adopt various binding interfaces to interact with potassium channels.For example, the scorpion toxin BmKTX and its three highly similar analogues adopt distinct molecular surfaces to interact with Kv1.3 channel.Therefore, whether defensins with the similar animal toxin structures could inhibit potassium channels is an interesting question.
