Ni-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling of alkyl halides with other electrophiles has provided facile protocols to the construction C-C bonds, featuring excellent functional group tolerance and broad substrate scope under mild conditions. While primary and secondary alkyl halides have been extensively studied, the tertiary alkyl counterparts proved to be extremely challenging.Recently, our group has disclosed highly effective methods for the coupling of unactivated tertiary alkyl halides with aryl halides and acid derivatives. These processes allows efficient synthesis of quaternary carbon compounds without pre-preparation of organometallic reagents. With our continuing endeavors, the more difficult all quaternary carbon centers constituting C(sp3)-C(sp3) bonds has also been achieved.
