The recent developments in inert chemical bond activation have emerged as very attractive altematives to the traditional cross-coupling reactions. With the aid of transition-metal complexes, the unreactive bonds such as C-H,C-O,C-N,C-F and even C-C bonds can be functionalized.Activation of unreactive bond is limited by two fundamental challenges involving the inert nature of these chemical bonds and the requirement of controlling site selectivity in molecules that contain different chemical bonds. Our research field is focused on C-H1-3 and C-N4 bond activation and functionalization. We developed the first direct and site-selective arylation of indoles at the C7-and C6-positions and direct arylation of aliphatic C-H bonds in ketoximes.More recently,A Ni/NHC-catalytic system has also been established for decarbonylative borylation of amides with B2nep2 via C-N bond activation.Based on this research, functionalization of C-H and C-N bond has shown promises because it confers synthetic versatility of such inert functional groups.
