　　The pathway of starch synthesis has been well elucidated,in part from work on legumes,notably pea.We isolated numerous chemically-induced mutants of pea that were affected in starch synthesis and helped not only define the pathway,but also increased the range of starch,sucrose and protein contents of the seed.
