Background Accumulating evidence suggests the butyrate-producing bacteria, such as Roseburia/Eubacterium group, may play an important role in maintaining the human gut health. In this work we aim to investigate the polymorphism of human derived butyrate-producing bacteria based on DNA sequence guided isolation, including the taxonomy,abundance,morphology,butyrate-producing capacity,carbon-source utilization spectrum, growth curve and tolerance to oxygen.
