Apple harvesting is the most important part of the whole orchard production procedural,which is a seasonal and labor-intensive work.The use of labor accounted for 35% to 45% of the whole labor.With the rising of labor cost, more and more harvesting machinery are widely used in practical.There're plenty of researches on vibration harvesting.One of the main advantages of it is the high efficiency in harvesting.But there's an obviouslydisadvantage: apples are suffered collision from many sources, such as apple to apple, apple to branches, apple to catching platform, apple to conveyor.The bruise or damage degrades the apples and the apples perished easily.The main goal of this study is to reduce the "apple to catching platform" collision damage.So a new catching platform was designed, looking for the optimal parameter to reduce the apple bruise or damage.This will provide lots of help for the future platform design.The philosophy of the catching platform design is "decelerate-seperate": decelerate the apples, separate the apples.So the catching platform is "Grid-Slope" type.Apples fall down the slope to decelerate and the grids separate each ones.According to the experiment done in the Prosser and Basin city orchards, the result showed that: with the increasing dip angle of the slope (from 10°to 25°), the bruise/damage rate decrease from 22% to 11%.
