Rice is more sensitive to salt stress than other crops,especially at seedling stage;cloning and functional analysis of salt tolerance gene is efficient strategy for rice molecular breeding.AP2/EREBP transcription factors play an important role in plant development,hormone response,biotic and abiotic stress responses.In this study,we identified that OsAP2ST,a member of AP2 subfamily of AP2/EREBP transcription family in rice,was involved in salt stress tolerance.The expression of OsAP2ST was significantly induced by drought,cold and salt stresses,and the transgenic plants with overexpression of OsAP2ST were evidently tolerant to salt stress.The molecular mechanism of salt stress tolerance of this gene was further investigated.Our results suggest that the OsAP2ST gene has the potential to improve salinity tolerance in rice at seedling stage.
