Insects inhabit a stressed environment where they are surrounded by an almost unquantifiable amount of pathogens.In fighting with pathogens,insects have developed a defense system that is extraordinarily successful in clearing the infections.Defense reactions in insects include encapsulation,melanization,and production of antimicrobial peptides(AMPs)and stress proteins.However,much of the work on insect immune responses is done under artificial conditions in the laboratory with exposing insects to a small range of pathogens or artificial beads.
