Prins cyclization of geminal bis(silyl) homoallylic alcohol with aldehyde shows excellent cisand Z-selectivity to form diverse tetrahydropyrans containing geometrically defined exo-cyclic vinylsilane.Using this "Prinz" cyclization as a key step led to an efficient synthesis of ring B of bryostatins.
