A genome-wide scan for selection responses in a high-oil maize population

High-oil maize is the product of artificial selection.Relatively little is known about the long-term selection footprints of phenotypic,genomic and genetic properties.Here we developed a unique high-oil maize population called LvDaHongGu High-Oil (LDHO) population,which was derived from chain-crosses among nine elite inbred lines with seven-generation selection for oil content in maize kernel.Intense artificial selection leads to prominent phenotypic changes not only in kernel oil content but also in some agronomic traits such as flowering time,plant height,hundred-grain weight and etc.To better understand the genetic basis of kernel oil content as well as some agronomic traits varied during the long-term selection,three generations of LDHO population,C1,C4 and C7,with each generation of around 200 individuals,were phenotyped for 27 traits in three environments and genotyped using 3,072 SNPs.
