Background: Deep sequencing with new computational approaches for assembling transcriptome has identified tens of thousands of large intergenic transcripts across different tissues and cell types. These intergenic transcripts do not code for proteins and are named long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs).Although several lincRNAs have been depicted with relatively explicit molecular mechanisms in several cancers, little is known about the regulatory mechanisms of lincRNAs in tumors or normal tissues, especially on regulation by DNA methylation.
