SYMMETRIC PETAL3,Encoding a Ribosomal Protein,is Involved in Flower Development in Lotus japonicus b

　　Floral zygomorphy (flowers with bilateral symmetry) has multiple origins and typically manifests two kinds of asymmetries, dorsoventral (DV) and organ internal (IN) asymmetries in floral and organ planes, respectively.Our previous studies revealed that TCP genes were independently recruited to determine DV asymmetry in legume plants.Meanwhile, little is known about the molecular mechanism controlling IN asymmetry.We investigate the loci affecting these asymmetries during the development of floral zygomorphy in L.japonicus.In this study, we identified a novel factor, SYMMETRIC PETALS 3 (SYP3), which is involved in IN asymmetries of lateral petals in L.japonicus.Our results showed that syp3 mutant gave rise to defects in IN asymmetries of petals without altering the floral DV asymmetry based on the shapes and representative cell types on the adaxial surface of petals.
