Objectives: To testify whether exercise training (ET) could improve cardiac function in rats with myocardial infarction (MI) by promoting cardiomyocyte proliferation and stem cell chemotaxis.Methods:Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into: control, sedentary MI (Sed-MI) group and MI with ET (Ex-MI) group.Cardiac function, infarct size and pathological changes in cardiac tissue was assessed.Expressions of cell proliferation maker and factors related to stem cell chemotaxis was assessed by immunological methods, and expression of nkx2.5 mRNA was determined by RT-PCR.Results: ET improved cardiac function, decreased infarct size and increased amount of PCNA positive cells, increased the protein expressions of CXCR4, VLA-4,C-kit, CD29 and CD34, and the expression of nkx2.5 mRNA compared with Sed-MI group.Conclusion: ET can improve cardiac function in MI rats and the underlying mechanism may be related to promoting cardiomyocyte proliferation and stem cell chemotaxis.
