Ectoderm is one of the three germ layers in early mouse embryo and it has the capacity to develop into epidermis and central nervous system.The concept of ectoderm in mouse embryonic development is well established,however,there is no evidence supporting the existence of ectoderm stem cell,which is the progenitor cells of the definitive ectoderm. We have found that ectoderm stem cells may exist in the anterior/proximal ectoderm of E7.0 mouse embryo.
