FENCING DECREASED NITROGEN LOSSES IN AN ALPINE STEPPE OF NORTHERN TIBET, CHINA: A 15N TRACING STUDY

  To quantify the fencing effects on N sequestration and distribution patterns of alpine grassland,a 15N tracing study was carried out to investigate the nitrogen dynamics in an alpine steppe of northern Tibet,China.We analyzed the recovery of 15N in plant tissue and soil.The result showed that the 15N tracer recovery rates of free grazing alpine steppe (GS) and 3 years fenced alpine steppe (FS) were 85.55% and 96.88% in current growing season,respectively.And about 50% of 15N tracer remains in 0-20cm soil layer in both of the GS and the FS.
