  Magnesium is characterized by its excellent castability,mechinability,bio-compatibility,high thermal conductivity,high dimensional stability,and is easily recycled with low energy consumption.With a density of 1.75 g/cm3 magnesium is the lightest structural metal.The above characteristics make it the best choice in a number of demanding applications including automobile,aerospace,computer,mobile phones components,household equipment,etc.However,poor corrosion and wear resistance is the critical issues limiting further application of these alloys.In the present study,an attempt was made to enhance corrosion resistance and microhardness of a commercial Mg alloy AZ91D by electron beam alloying.Flame spray method was used to prepare Al coating on the suface of AZ91D magnesium alloy,then remelted by high power electron beam.The microstructure and composition of the coating were analyzed in detail by scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectros (EDS).
