Remote sensing (RS) technique is now widely applied in many fields, evapotranspiration (ET) retrieval is among them. This paper introduces some main methodologies widely used globally. The methods can be classified as monolayer model, two-source model,multi-layer model and other effective methods. The mono-layer model and other simple model are the most widely used while applications of the two-source model and multi-layer model are few because of their complexity and too many parameters and observations requirement. We hope to provide useful information for the routine calculation of the regional evapotranspiration via remote sensing techniques. Some perspectives are also put forward.
