Owing to the advantages of even surface,low cost and simple operation,electroless plating is applied to prepare Ni-Co-P/Si3N4 composite coating on a hyper-eutectic Al-Si casting alloy in this paper.The thickness,hardness,surface morphology,composition and wearing resistance of Ni-Co-P/Si3N4 coating have been observed by optical microscope,micro-hardness tester,SEM,EDS and abrasion tester,respectively.The effect of the plating time and temperature,PH and the component in the plating bath on the thickness,hardness and wearing resistance of the formed composite coating were studied,and the influence of the Si3N4 content in the coating on the adhesion performance was also investigated.It is indicated that the thickness of the electroless plated layer increase with the plating temperature and time,PH,and the concentration of NiSO4 and NaH2PO2.The hardness of coating could be enhanced by increasing the plating temperature and time,PH,the concentration of NiSO4,NaH2PO2 and Si3N4,but decreasing the CoSO4 concentration.The results also shows that the adhesion strength of the films could be improved with increasing the Si3N4 content in the composite coatings.Base on these results,the optimal process parameters of composite plating were discussed and suggested.
