　　The synthesis of 3-alkyl-2-nitro-benzo[b]furans is the subject of intense investigation because the nitro group has a significant effect on the biological activity and often manifests changes in chemical and physical properties.However,only a few effective approaches are known such as direct nitration1 and reaction of diorganozinc benzo[b]furans bearing a nitro group with an alkyl halide,2 which suffer from poor regioselectivity,low yields and high toxic.
