This Keynote speech is designed to review both the history and technique evolution of treatment of ptosis of the upper eyelid.History is reviewed from both the chronological as well as the tissue perspectives, starting from ancient arabian endeavours, passing by medieval european contributions, stopping by the foundation of modern ophthalmic plastic societies, and ending by the publication of the state-of-art techniques.The classical evaluation approaches are reviewed, focusing on some diagnostic tricks and bits that are prone to be missed.Classifications of the abnormality are demonstrated with their clinical background analysis.Finally the principles and details of surgery are demonstrated including the main guidelines of picking up a particular technique.
