During the past 50 years, with an identifiable trend of increase in temperature and decrease in precipitation, agricultural lands are suffering more severe drought in Jinghe river basin,a typical mesoscale catchment in the northwest China. The drought can also be indicated by the significant decrease in surface humid index (SHI).Up to now, there are very few researches carried out to evaluate farmers adaptation strategies for drought was found. In this study, various adaptation strategies are analyzed and discussed by using analytic hierarchical process (AHP) method,a multi-criteria evaluation analysis approach. Results shows that ‘reforming economic-structure to promote less water consuming activity is ranked as the most desired strategy, while ‘improving water allocation policies and ‘establishing water users association are ranked fairly high as well.Further analysis show that these strategies are practical options and can help farmers to adapt the drought caused by climate change.
