The steroid Receptor RNA Activator (SRA) was originally identified as a non-coding RNA able to specifically enhance the activity of steroid receptors.Additional SRA transcripts, which encode for a protein (SRAP) highly conserved in Vertebrates, have now however been characterized.SRAP may also modulate the activity of steroid receptors.Therefore SRA1 gene products have the unusual property of being active both as a RNA and as a protein.
