Hsp70 is known to constitute the ubiquitous cellular protective mechanism whose efficacy was proved in a great number of studies in vitro and in vivo.In cancer cells Hsp70-mediated protection is mainly focused at the rescuing tumor from anti-cancer drugs inducing apoptosis. The aim of this study was to elucidate the molecular mechanism of Hsp70-mediated protection and to explore the latter features in cells differently expressing Myc oncogene. It was found that both moderate heat shock and transfection ofU-937 myeloid leukemia cells with hsp70 gene caused long-term protection from the apoptosis-inducing action of cells treated with adriamycin, etoposide or sodium butyrate.
