For clarifying the effecting mechanism of Laval tube geometry on the performance of a yarn suction gun for FDY,using CFD software CFX 12.1,this paper investigates airflow patterns in the gun with different geometrical parameters of the Laval tube by numerical simulation,and discusses the relation between the flow patterns and yarn suction performance.Results obtained are as follows:A rational accelerates the airflow smoothly in the Laval tube,avoids more backflows occurred in Laval tube and energy loss caused by normal shock wave,and increases the suction efficiency;The suction efficiency can be raised through a rational,which leads to a larger circumferential component of air velocity vc in the gun and a moderate region of high speed and high density air.This increases drag force of air on the yarn,reduces friction of wall on the yarn,reduces energy loss caused by the normal shock wave.
