Geographic information system(GIS) is becoming a valuable tool for policing.GIS technology has been widely used in crime analysis and other policing works.In order to promote the implementation of police informatization construction, at present, the most important problem is how to dissolve "information islands" and establish an IT architecture to reach the goal of information sharing and business collaborative in different departments.GIS can enable the combination of various sources of data with electronic map and capture useful information.This paper introduces the concept, technical issues and main applications of GIS in police department.According to the demands of modem policing, this paper mainly described how to build a GIS-Based police comprehensive information platform(PCIP).
