[International Nuclear Project, August 2000] A heavy storm led to a short shutdown of a nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, located 300 km south of Kiev. A spokesman for the Atomic Energy Department said the rumbling thunder triggered a seismic safety system for the plant. The alarm shut down one of the three reactors in the power plant for 1 hour. Radiation levels remained normal; the reactor was subsequently operating at reduced output power
