卢梭(1712~1778)是十八世纪法国杰出的启蒙思想家和教育家。他对幼儿教育极为重视,提出了许多极为有益的主张,其主要之点可归纳为如下几方面: 一、幼儿教育的可能性和必要性卢梭认为,婴儿的主要特征是缺乏和软弱,婴儿最初的呼声是哭叫,当他们感觉到各种需要但不能满足这些需要时,便用哭喊来求别人帮助。“他(婴儿)既无感情,又无思考,他仅能感觉自己,他不曾意识到自己的生存。”正因为婴儿具有上述特征,所以他们才有教育与发展的可能。他还认为,一个小孩能否成为身心发达、头脑灵活的人,主要取决于他幼年的教养;一个人对自然和社会的认识及他与父母和他人的关系亦取决于他幼年
