In 2004, China’s main forest product export volume was 15.894 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 33.63% year-on-year; import volume was 16.34 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 17.17% year-on-year. Among them, the output of China’s wood-based panels exceeded 50 million cubic meters for the first time in 2004, reaching 5,446.49 million cubic meters, an increase of 19.61 percent compared to 45,533,600 cubic meters in 2003. This set of data seems to be the basis for more optimistic judgments in the industry. However, if we pay a little attention to the information on imports, exports, and circulation in this month, we will find that the import and export structure of China’s wood industry is undergoing challenges.
