艾尔顿·约翰(Elton John)终于又出新专辑了,老乐迷们当然让为是流行音乐界一件值得高兴的大事;而年轻乐迷的目光,也在同时被艾尔顿·约翰所吸引。这对艾尔顿·约翰来说,虽然是件好事,但是促成如此结果者,却是两件令人难过的悲剧所引起:一是意大利服装界大师吉安尼·范思哲的遇刺身亡;一是英国王妃黛安娜的车祸过世。这两位知名的公众人物皆是他的好友,在他们的丧礼上,艾尔顿·约翰不仅前往吊唁,更在黛妃的丧礼上高歌一曲《风中之烛》(发行的单曲CD已超越《白色圣诞》,成为有史以来最畅销的)。其实,姑且不论这些事件对艾尔顿·约翰新专辑的影响,就其个人在音乐上的表现来说,不论是老乐迷还是新人类,均是相当值得一探究竟的。

Actually, whatever the impact of these events on Elton John’s new album, it is quite worthwhile to find out whether their performance in music, whether old or new, is something to be explored.
