Newton wrote in Universal Arithmetic: “To answer a question that contains an abstract relationship between numbers, just translate the subject from everyday language to algebraic language.” And the language of algebra is the equation. For example: the school library bought 27 literature and art books and a group of science and technology books, a total of 50 books. How many books to buy science and technology? Daily language: literary books + science and technology books = the total number of two books. Algebraic language: 27 + x = 50 Another example: a shop has 74 pounds of fruit sugar, and shipped 25 pounds, 63 pounds left after selling one day. How many pounds sold this day? Daily language: the original number of pounds + transported the number of pounds - sold pounds
