With 7.73 million employees and fixed assets of 89.4 billion yuan, Zhejiang township enterprises, which play an important role in the national economy, began to change from quantitative expansion to quality growth after years of rapid development. In mid-April, economic figures from 10 provinces and autonomous regions including Jiangsu, Guangdong and Heilongjiang made a field trip and praised Zhejiang’s township and village enterprises for becoming “solid” and full of vigor and vitality. According to the latest statistical data from the authoritative department, the output value of township enterprises in Zhejiang has quadrupled in the past three years. In 1994, the total output value of township enterprises reached 477.5 billion yuan, and the industrial sales revenue reached 340.8 billion yuan, an increase of 74.35% over the previous year.
