心脏东京大学医学部渥美和彦教授领导的研究小组所采用的人工心脏,构造大致与美国犹他州立大学的相同,由两个长约十五厘米呈U字型的多碱塑料血泵、循环控制装置和电源组成。渥美教授等人把这副人工心脏安装在山羊身上,创造了1980年山羊动物试验中,生存长达288天的世界最新记录。当时的世界记录是这次把人工心脏植入人体的犹他州立大学在牛身上创造的219天,两者虽有牛与羊的不同,但作为世界记录曾轰动一时。
