自谦语作为汉语的一部分,体现了中国传统文化中谨慎谦虚的特征。不论是在日常生活还是在文学作品中,自谦语总是不可避免地出现。而英语受西方文化的影响,自谦语并没有汉语自谦语那么丰富。这就带来了在中英文翻译过程中如何翻译自谦语的问题。针对这个问题,本文首先对汉英自谦语作出对比研究,然后以林语堂先生翻译的《浮生六记》作范本,探讨在翻译中自谦语的翻译策略与技巧,指出在翻译过程中应结合文本的语境意义并考虑中西方文化差异,灵活运用翻译策略,才能使英语读者真正地从自谦语中领会中国人的谦虚之美。
Modesty as a part of Chinese reflects the cautious and humble nature of Chinese traditional culture. Whether in daily life or in literary works, modesty always inevitably emerges. English is influenced by Western culture, and modesty is not as rich as Chinese modesty. This brings up the issue of how to translate modesty in both Chinese and English translation. To solve this problem, this article first makes a contrastive study of Chinese modesty and then analyzes the translation tactics and techniques of modesty in translation, pointing out that in the process of translation, The contextual meaning of the text, taking into account the cultural differences between China and the West, and the flexible use of translation strategies can make English readers truly understand the humility of the Chinese from modesty.
