铁线草别名疙疤皮草、绊根草等,为禾本科植物狗牙根[Cynodon dactylon(L.)Pers.],以全草及根状茎入药。产于河南、江苏、湖南、福建、四川、云南、江西等省。多生于路旁、草地、沟边、河堤、圹边、田埂等处,其形态特征及植物图可参阅《全国中草药汇编》下册 513～514页。夏秋采全草或嫩尖,分别洗净、晒干供用。据《全国中草药汇编》下册513～514页记载:本品性平味甘,功能清热、利尿、散瘀、止血、舒筋活络。适用于上呼吸道感染、肝炎、痢疾、泌尿道感染、鼻嘴咯血、呕血便血、脚气水肿、风湿骨痛、荨麻疹、半身不遂、手脚麻木、跌打损伤。外用治外伤出血、骨折、疮痈、下肢溃疡。用量全草15～30g,根茎30～60g,水煮或酒泡服,外用适量,或鲜嫩叶捣烂敷患处。
