加速玉米育种进程,目前主要采用简化育种程序和加速世代选育两种办法。在加代繁育方面,1981年我们首次去南宁秋繁成功。收获的玉米种于当年12月20日在海南岛陵水播种,出苗良好。现将这一工作初步总结如下: 一、可能性及价值:南宁秋繁一年三代是否可能?以前主要耽心时间不够及怕受台风、低温的影响。经过这次实践并查阅有关气象资料,我们认为是可能的。从时间上看,南宁秋播玉米全生育期90天左右,加上冬繁105天,春繁115天,三季共约310天。必要时还可以提前收获果穗(授粉后20—30天的种子能正常发芽)。这样,一年三季时间是够的。从气候条件方面看,南宁秋繁也是可能的。7月、8月播种的玉米均能抽雄、吐丝、结实成熟。
