非英语专业学生英语水平普遍提高和英语专业毕业生逐渐失去英语语言的优势这一事实提醒我们,如果不加强学生综合素质的培养而一味强调语言技能的提高,将会使英语专业的学生在日益激烈的人才竞争中面临前所未有的挑战。中国英语教学研究会会长文秋芳教授针对英语专业课程设置与教学方法亟待改革的状况提出了“问题驱动假设”的教学理念。笔者认为这一理念的提出契合了新时期英语专业学生综合素质的培养目标,对于英美文学课程的教学改革方向具有指导性的意义。
