目前微型机发展极为迅速,图形处理和办公室自动化设备发展的势头很快,计算机的网络系统特别是局部网技术的发展更是日新月异。美国通用电器公司于1954年10月第一次用计算机计算职工工资,从此计算机开始进入了企业管理,美国在财务会计上90％工作用计算机处理,物资管理占80～100％,计划管理中60～90％,长远规划是30～90％用计算机营理。 据统计目前计算机中有90％是微型机,而且用于企业管理的很多。几个经济发达国家,计算机用于经济管理可占80％。经济管理是计算机应用的重要领域。我国工交企业有38万个,其中化工企业有6000个。如能全部采用计算机辅助企业管理,企业将会彻底改观。
