Batch experiments were conducted to determine ways to improve the slower elution kinetics of gold from activated carbon. Experiments have shown that solutions of 3.0% thiourea, 2.0% NaOH and 0.05% NaCN provide the best prospects for greatly improving industrial tank productivity. This paper describes the results of a semi-industrial test using this solution. The semi-industrial test results are similar to the batch tests, which encouraged the use of this solution to adjust production operations at the Zadra plant. Although initial factory tests showed that the addition of NaCN by section and the resulting increase in elution kinetics did not improve the elution efficiency sufficiently, the improvement in elution kinetics still reflects the plant’s overall recovery and productivity.
