The medical system in the United States is now undergoing a period of change. These changes are more impactful than at any time in the past decades. As we all know, the United States has consistently refused to accept the system of using the public medical system to allocate medical resources to the people adopted by other advanced industrial countries. Instead, it adopts methods that use market institutions or similar institutions to allocate medical resources, select the appropriate amount and quality of medical care, and provide medical services to consumers (beneficiaries). This article describes the background and current changes in the US health care system, and discusses how these changes will affect future policies.
