【编者注】匹诺曹的故事是18世纪意大利作家卡洛·科洛迪留给世人的经典童话故事。她借用匹诺曹这个欧洲众人皆知的人物，为我们叙述了一个生动、充满幻想、富有教育意义的故事。
Once upon a time, there was a carpenter（木匠） who was single all his life. And when the man got old, he felt very lonely. He wanted a child by his side. 从前有个木匠，一辈子没结婚。他年老后感到非常孤独。他很想要个孩子在身旁。
He made a puppet (木偶)—a small lovely boy. The wooden boy came to his life talking and walking the next morning. The old carpenter named the boy “Pinocchio”.他做了一个木偶——一个可爱的小男孩。第二天早上，小木偶竟然活了，并且会说话能走路。老木匠给他取名叫“匹诺曹”。
The puppet was like a real boy, innocent（天真的） and ignorant(无知的). As a result, he was sent to school by the old carpenter. 小木偶就像个真的孩子，天真、无知。于是，老木匠送他去上学。
However, the puppet met a few bad guys at school. He learned to tell lies. After the old found the problem, he decided to give him a lesson. 可是,匹诺曹在学校碰到了一些坏孩子，学会了说谎。当老木匠发现后,他决定要教训一下匹诺曹。
Unluckily, the old carpenter’s words didn’t work. Not knowing what to do, the old carpenter asked Angel for help. Angel decided that his nose would grow whenever he told a lie. 不幸的是，老木匠的教育不起作用。无奈的老木匠只好向仙女寻求帮助。仙女决定只要匹诺曹再说谎话，他的鼻子就会长长。
At first, Pinocchio would not believe Angel’s words. But when he found his nose did get longer after telling a lie, he was scared （害怕）. 起初，匹诺曹还不相信仙女的话。但是后来发现自己的鼻子在说谎话后真的变长了，他就开始害怕了。
Being regretful, Pinocchio begged for Angel’s forgiveness （宽恕）. Kind Angel promised him that his long nose would shorten every time he told a truth until it returned to its normal state. 匹诺曹十分后悔，并祈求仙女宽恕他。仙女告诉他从今以后，他每说一句真话鼻子就缩短一点，直到恢复正常。
On the other hand, even one more lie would make his nose that long. Pinocchio nodded and was careful enough not to tell a lie for 3 days. 但是只要他再说谎，鼻子马上会变成现在的样子。匹诺曹点点头，三天没说谎。
But one day, he told a lie again and regained his long nose. From then on, he swore（发誓） not to tell a lie any more indeed. 但是有一天匹诺曹又说了谎话，他的鼻子又变长了。匹诺曹发誓从此以后他再也不说谎了。
At last, he had his normal nose. As a reward, he was turned into a real person in the end. 最后，他的鼻子恢复正常了。仙女为了奖励匹诺曹，把他变成了一个真人。
