“宰桐”这个大城市是刺桐缎的故乡,差不多已经被遗忘了。原来,全世界的大船都曾麕集于此,14世纪甚至有旅行家远从摩洛哥来到这里。但是,1950年在出版《马可波罗游记》时,还有人怀疑“宰桐”是否就是泉州。近三十年来,泉州同行们的研究活动,帮助我们真正了解了泉州过去的历史,指出了泉州是当时国际间的经济,文化交流的十字路口。在这里,海外交通史博物馆的作用无疑是最重要的。他们先发掘了那艘很有名的古船,
