党的十五届三中全会公报指出:“发展小城镇,是带动农村经济和社会发展的一个大战略”。都匀地处大西南通向沿海的黄金通道上,是以贵阳为核心的黔中经济圈和以南宁——北海为轴的环海经济圈结合部上的一个重要城市。良好的区位优势和便捷的交通,使都匀成为黔南自治州的政治、经济、文化、交通中心,也是贵州省实施南下战略的前沿“窗口”。改革开放20多年来,都匀市小城镇工作取得了长足的进步,城镇人口从10.9万人增加到1999年的17.7万人。1999年,农民人均纯收入1668元。其中最高的乡镇达到了2023万元。在全市近30万农业人口中,有3.2万人从事非农产业经营,年劳务输出1.5万人,全市城市化水平达到39.3%。

It is an important city on the junction of Central Guizhou Economic Circle with Guiyang as its core and the circular economic circle with Nanning-Beihai as the axis. With its favorable geographical position and convenient transportation, Duyun becomes the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of Qiannan Autonomous Prefecture and is also the frontier “window” of Guizhou’s implementation of the southbound strategy. Over the past 20 years since the reform and opening up, the work of small towns in Duyun has made great strides. The urban population has increased from 109,000 to 177,000 in 1999. In 1999, the per capita net income of farmers was 1,668 yuan. The highest township reached 20.23 million yuan. Among the nearly 300,000 agricultural population in the city, 32,000 people are engaged in non-agricultural industries, and the annual output of labor services is 15,000. The urbanization level of the whole city is 39.3%.
