2010年5月,中央召开新疆工作座谈会,对推进新疆跨越式发展和长治久安做出了战略部署。根据会议精神,按照中央新疆工作协调小组的分工部署,结合自身职能,国家宗教局通过深入调研,以解经和朝觐工作为抓手,加大对新疆宗教工作的支持指导力度,在政策、经费、人员等方面给予帮助,推动新疆宗教工作迈上新台阶。深入调研深化解经中央新疆工作座谈会召开后,国家宗教局党组迅速成立新疆宗教工作领导小组,加强对局内新疆宗教工作的领导和协调。
